Still Coughing

Since I am still coughing 3 ½ weeks after my cold, I went to the doctor today. After she checked me out, the verdict is that I have a bacterial infection in my chest.

But the good news is that it’s probably not pneumonia. Just what you always hope to hear from your doctor.

Armed with antibiotics and prescription-strength cough syrup, hopefully I’m now on the mend.

Also, when I picked Rex up from school today, he threw his arms around my legs and said, “Mommy, I was so worried about you!” Since he doesn’t know that I’m sick or that I went to the doctor while he was at school, I assume this was just 3-year-old randomness. It was super sweet, though.

Busy, Busy, Busy

So, it seems like once a week is about all I can manage to post. Not that I haven’t thought about it. I have a list of things that I want to post about. I just haven’t managed to translate anything from the list into an actual post. I think that it might get worse before it gets better. I have really full schedule for the next couple of weeks.

Friday and Saturday, I’m having a garage sale with a friend, for which I still have to get ready. Next week Wednesday through Sunday, I’m going to the Quilt Festival. Next Friday is Halloween, which means trick-or-treating. And next Saturday, we are having a Halloween party with a bunch of friends.

And don’t get me wrong, I am looking forward to all of it. Well, maybe not the garage sale so much. The garage sale, hopefully, will just put a little more money in my pocket for the quilt show. But the rest of it should all be very fun. I’m looking forward to everything coming up in the next couple of weeks. There’s just a lot of getting ready to do.

So here’s a list of things that I wanted to post about, but will be old news by the time I can give them the proper attention:

1.) Spike can pull himself up now. He can also spill, knock over, and basically destroy anything left on the coffee table.
2.) He tries to climb over everything. Which usually just results with him crying, halfway in and halfway out of the toy box.
3.) Rex started a little preschool at the beginning of the school year. We seem to be going through the preschool plague that hits a household where a kid has just started school or daycare. It feels like we stay sick.
4.) Between said plague and the hurricane, Rex has only managed to make it to school for both days in the week ONCE. I have high hopes for this week.
5.) I haven’t gotten very far with my Dorothy costume. I have almost half of it cut out. That’s it. I have like 9 days left to get it done.

That’s all I can think of right now. Maybe I’ll go try and get something done. Or maybe I’ll just watch last night’s Heroes and eat some spinach dip.

Crafty

Over the last few years, I’ve been trying to learn how to sew. I’ve made a few different things. Last Christmas, I made blankets for my brother and sister. And I made myself a diaper bag while I was pregnant with Spike that I love.

At the end of this month, I’m going to the International Quilt Festival with my mother-in-law. I went last year, but only as a shopper. This year I’m going to be taking quilting classes all week and I’m very excited to start learning how to quilt. Although it’s kind of daunting, and I’m not sure if I have enough of a perfectionist in me, I’ve wanted to learn to quilt for a long time.

I decided that I wanted to make myself a bag to use at the quilt show this year. So, last Saturday, I had the house to myself for the evening, and I spent the night making a new purse for the show. I have to say, I’m pretty proud of how it came out. I really like it, and I don’t think I’m going to wait for the quilt show to carry it.

This is the outside of the bag.

This is the inside, or reversible side of the bag.

My next project is going to be my costume for Halloween. I’m (hopefully) going as Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz.” I have a friend who is a theatre teacher who is going to help me fit it to myself. I’ll let you know how it goes.

*cough cough*

So, I've been sick with a cold for the past week, which is why I haven't really posted this week. By the time the kids are in bed, I'm too wiped out to do anything more than lay on the couch.

Hopefully, I'll get something more substantial up in the next few days. I did manage to make myself a new purse this weekend, and I want to post pictures.

But I just wanted to say that I haven't already forgotten about my blog. I've just been sidetracked by sinus pressure.

my friend, bumblebee

The title of my blog comes from my son, Rex. His first imaginary friend is Bumblebee. Bumblebee is a bee who lives on Rex’s shoulder (usually the right shoulder). When he’s not on Rex’s shoulder, it generally means that he’s at work. Where he makes honey. When we are in the car, Bumblebee rides in the back (trunk). All the other friends Rex brings along are more invisible than imaginary, since they are real friends of his, they just don’t happen to be around as often as he claims.

Starting this blog, I wanted to have a place that I could write about all aspects of my life as a mother. One of my favorite things right now is Rex’s imagination. It just fills me with wonder that he is able to make up so many things for his world and I have so much fun playing along with him. And it seems like such a milestone for my son to have his first imaginary friend.

I love Bumblebee, and I know I’m going to miss him when he’s gone. It will just be one more thing that Rex leaves behind as he grows up. So, hopefully, my blog title will help Bumblebee live on just a little. I’m sure it will at least help me remember why I wanted to start writing and how I felt as a mom at this time in our lives.

"Don't Kiss Me If You're Going to Put Your Tongue in My Mouth!"

That’s one of the many things I find myself saying to my 3 year old lately that I never imagined would come out of my mouth.

A few others:

“It’s not nice to lick people. Your friends won’t like it if you lick them.”

“This is a special kind of French fry. It’s called a tater tot.”

This is why I’m starting this blog. I want a place to document all of the amazing things that come along with raising two boys. The funny times. The sweet times. The sad times. A place where friends and family can keep up with what’s going on with us no matter where they are.

So, I’m a stay-at-home mom with two little boys. (Side note: I’m not really comfortable putting their real names on the internet, so for this blog, I’m giving them nicknames.) Rex is my older son, he just turned 3 last week. “Rex” comes from a shortened version of a nickname I used for a while because he loves dinosaurs. My younger son is Spike, he’s seven months old. Last week he got his first two teeth and today he had his first haircut. Which is where his nickname comes from. He was born with an amazing head of hair that spiked up into a perfect mohawk for the first month or so of his life. Leading up to his first haircut at only seven months. My husband works from home, so the boys get to have their daddy around all day. I get to benefit from his help when I need it.

I think that’s about all I have for tonight. Hopefully you’ll enjoy stopping by and following along in our lives.
